A group of NMU students from Catholic Campus Ministry at St. Michael Parish found a tricky way to treat hunger in Marquette by conducting a Halloween Can Drive. The students dressed in costume and went block by block, in groups of 2 and 3, on Halloween night during city-designated hours for trick-or-treating. Approaching like traditional trick-or-treaters, they identified themselves as Campus Ministry students and invited people to donate non-perishables for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. Following the event, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry was treated to a pick-up truck load of canned goods!
Second year graduate student, Jackson Gray, said he found his way back to the Catholic faith in 2021 after falling away from the faith in middle and high school. He started attending events at Catholic Campus Ministry and began to get more and more involved with the ministry. He shared the idea of the Halloween Can Drive from previous experience he had with a similar event through another student organization, NMU Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.
“It was really just a good time,” Jackson said. “We all had fun doing it, and people were very receptive to donating canned goods.”
