I have been caring for my aging parents for a while now, and when they have a new medical need it is typically urgent. Of course, it never happens at a convenient time, but when I am running in ten different directions at once! I heard that SVDP provides free use of some types of medical equipment, so I made a phone call to inquire.
Each time I reached out, they seemed to have what I needed, when I needed it. My dad needed a shower chair after hip surgery, and a few years later a walker after his stroke. More recently, I borrowed another shower chair when my sister came to visit with her husband, who is a recent lower limb amputee.
It is comforting to know SVDP is there to help out a neighbor in need. Within minutes I was able to make a phone call and drive to the nearby Thrift Store, where I was met by a friendly person who showed me what was available. All I had to do was sign out the item and off I went. Later, I was able to return the items, cleaned and ready for the next loan.
SVDP has become my go-to place not only when I need assistance, but also when I have clothes and household items to donate. I like knowing that my neighbors can receive the same services I did, and more, when they are in need.
